If you’ve been following this blog and it’s previous incarnation you know I love baseball memorabilia, and I love Mickey Mantle. Both in a good clean non-Sandusky kind of way. And every once in a while a piece comes to my attention that I must share with you.
I know what you’re thinking; Is that a genuine 1955/1956 Mickey Mantle autograph baseball glove that recently sold at auction for $3,555?……..No. But Kevin it sure looks like one……..again……..no. From the auction description of this item- Offered here is what is universally regarded as the most attractive Mickey Mantle glove box ever issued.
It’s just the box……there’s no glove inside……someone paid over $3,000 for an empty box.
I get the appeal for all things Mantle, but 3 questions spring to mind. Who would pay that kind of money for just a box? Who the heck kept an empty box for 50 years? And who decides what makes this box universally attractive? Maybe interstate attractive, definitely inter-family attractive, but universally attractive? I heard there’s a guy in the Denarii system that has a box that’s much more attractive.
Sheesh……….I wish I had the pissing away money that these guys have!
