Northside G-Force-Series #9

This is an ongoing series of posts documenting my online baseball simulation team, the Northside G-Force, on their quest to win the 1969 GAPL Championship, along with the successes and struggles of my all-time favorite player, Bobby Murcer.

G-Force LogoThe 12-12 G-Force take on the 7-17 Brew City Barons. Can we get out the broom and sweep these bums?

GAME #1

Extra innings leads to extra grief for this blogger. Wally Bunker and Wayne Granger put up 12 strong innings for the G-Force, allowing just 2 runs, but Rollie Fingers and the consistently aggravating  Moe Drabowsky toss batting practice in the 13th inning giving up 5 runs. The offense managed just 9 hits, and never really threatened after the 4th inning. Bobby Murcer walked 3x and drove in 2 with a 4th inning double.

r fingers

Something’s missing here. He needs something to set him apart from other relievers. I know…..a tattoo…..no glasses…………it’ll come to me….just give me a second……a big black beard. Yeah, that’s it, a beard.

GAME #2

Grant Jackson, Joe Grzenda and a beardless Rollie Fingers matched scoreless innings with the always cheerful Bob Gibson. With the game scoreless heading into the last of the 9th, Bob Gibson had allowed just 2 hits, but he had walked 6 pushing up his pitch count. Gibson struck out Jackson and Murcer to start the inning, but the usually unreliable Tommy Helms singled to right to extend the inning. The equally unreliable Sandy Alomar banged a 2-2 pitch inside the 3rd base line for a game winning double.

Bob Gibson_

There is no way, I would want to bat against this guy.

GAME #3

5 hits all game, 3 of them in a 2 run 4th inning. This is not the way to win ball games. Bobby Murcer’s 2 out 2 rbi single in the 4th proved to be the game winner. Dave Leonhard kept the Barons off the board until the 9th, and the G-Force were lucky to win 2 games in this series.

j pepitone

Joe Pepitone is hitting .367 with 8 home runs for the Barons. Could it be the batting glove on the wrong hand?

A 3 game series that the G-Force should have won easily. The starting pitching was fantastic, but the offense was anemic, scoring just 7 runs, on 13 hits, without a single home run. Do I look to make a trade to try to find a leadoff hitter that can actually hit, or do I hope that the trio of Jackson, Smith and Murcer can carry this offense?

Next up, the G-Force head to Shea Stadium to face the 16-11 Greenville Catfish.
