Bill Miller, a frequent visitor and commenter to this blog, and the driving force behind a wonderful baseball blog The On Deck Circle , made a comment recently, wondering why Bobby Murcer wasn’t represented on my personal baseball Wall of Fame in the Baseball Revisited home office. I have about a dozen framed pieces of baseball art, representing among others, Christy Mathewson, Lou Gehrig, Honus Wagner, and Jimmie Foxx. I have an autographed Bobby Murcer ball displayed prominently on the Baseball Revisited home office bookshelf, but nothing else. I needed to rectify this unbelievable oversight.
I Googled “bobby murcer art” and immediately found the above art print. Exactly what I was looking for, and it was available on Ebay, for a reasonable price. I clicked the purchase button, and 3 days later it arrived at my door. I added the Yankee logo in the bottom left corner, and it is now a permanent fixture on the Baseball Revisited Wall of Fame.
Bill Pruitt is the artist that painted this picture of Bobby Murcer gazing out at a packed Yankee Stadium, getting ready to take his hacks against another unfortunate pitcher. It has a Leroy Nieman type look to it, which I really like, and the colors are fantastic. I couldn’t be happier with this art print.
Bill Pruitt is not a baseball artist, his primary focus leans toward Sylvester Stallone in the Rocky and Rambo movies, but there are other works featuring Ali, Michael Jordon, and even George Brett. Visit his Ebay store for more examples.
You know, now that I look around, I don’t have a Mantle on my wall!!!???? I need to fix this. I’m going to need a bigger wall.
