This is the 3rd straight World Series Revisited meeting between the Giants and the Yankees. They have split the 1st 2, so this one is for bragging rights.
In 1923 The NY Giants won the NL Pennant with a 95-58 record, 4.5 games ahead of the Cincinnati Reds. The usual suspects make up this Giant dynasty, Frankie Frisch(.348-12-111) was the star, but they also had High Pockets Kelly(.307-16-103), Irish Meusel(.297-19-125) and the Ol’ Professor, before he was old, and a professor, Casey Stengel(.339) as the #4 outfielder.
On the mound the Giants featured no 20 game winners, but they did have 3-15 game winners in Hugh McQuillen(15) Jack Scott(16) and Rosy Ryan(16).
The Yankees went 98-58, capturing their 3rd straight AL Pennant, finishing an impressive 16 games up on the Detroit Tigers. This was Babe Ruth’s team as he put together one of his best seasons(.393-41-130). 1st baseman Wally Pipp(.304-6-108) and 2nd baseman Aaron Ward(.284-10-82) provided additional punch. Ward’s 10 home runs were 2nd on the team.
The Yankees featured a 5 man rotation that pitched almost every game. Sad Sam Jones(21), Bullet Joe Bush(19), Herb Pennock(19), Waite Hoyt(17), and Bob Shawkey(16) started all but 9 games, and won 92 of the Yankees 98 games.

In the actual World Series the Yankees won their 1st of, I’m pretty sure it’s around a 100 World Championships, beating the Giants in 6 games. The Giants won 2 of the 1st 3 games, only to lose the final 3 games.
The 1st home run in a World Series played at Yankee Stadium was hit by Casey Stengel. A game winning inside-the-park home run in Game #1. The 2nd home run hit in a World Series at Yankee Stadium was also a game winning home run hit by Casey Stengel in Game #3. This one was of the outside-the–park variety. The 1st Yankee to hit a World Series home run at Yankee Stadium was Joe Dugan in Game #5. Ruth hit 3 home runs in the Series, but they all came at the Polo Grounds. Ruth would have to wait until Game #7 of the 1926 World Series for his 1st Yankee Stadium post season blast.
This World Series Revisited scares me a little. I think the offenses will shine in this one, which means no lead is safe. The Yankees should win, but it might take them 7 hard fought games to do it. The Yankee pitching depth might be a problem, but Ruth should have a great series.
